Male/Female Pattern Hair Loss – Androgenetic Alopecia

Male Pattern Hair Loss (MPHL) is characterised by a receding hairline and thinning crown. Hair follicles in the temple and mid-anterior part of the scalp tend to be most commonly affected.

  • Stage I-III: Slight recession in the frontal and temporal regions. Hairlines become visible and there is some local hair loss on the crown.
  • Stage IV-V: Advanced hair loss on the crown and frontal region. Seen from above, the area still having hair looks like a horseshoe.
  • Stage VI: The depth of the frontal and crown areas has expanded sideward and backwards.

Female Pattern Hair Loss (FPHL) is characterised by thinning of hair on the top and front areas of the scalp.

  • Stage I: It shows slight hair loss on the crown.
  • Stage II: Advanced hair loss in the same area.
  • Stage III: Hair loss in the front temporal line starts.
  • Stage IV: It shows a continuation of that diffuse hair loss and front temporal recession.
  • Stage V: There is complete hair loss similar to male pattern baldness.

Major Reason For Androgenetic Hair Loss – Genes

Androgenetic hair thinning or baldness is due to the male hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT) acting on genetically-susceptible hair follicles in the scalp. Testosterone converts to DHT with the aid of the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase. DHT then binds to receptors on hair follicles obstructing the blood supply to the hair follicle thus preventing absorption of essential nutrients.

Scientists now know that DHT shrinks hair follicles through a process called miniaturization that eventually results in follicle death and hair loss. Without adequate nutrition reaching the follicles, the growth (Anagen) phase of the hair cycle shortens and the rest (Telogen) phase lengthens, so that with each new cycle the hair shaft becomes progressively smaller. The process of testosterone converting to DHT, which then harms hair follicles, occurs in both men and women. In most cases of hair loss, miniaturization is the primary cause.

Other Hair Loss Trigger Factors
Other trigger factors for hair loss include smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, poor diet, certain medications, insufficient sleep, emotional stress and use of poor quality/toxic hair products.

How Do Herbal Treatments Activate Hair Follicles?

At the Australian Hair and Scalp Clinic, we help to reverse miniaturization and re-grow hair naturally through a totally non-invasive process called Herbal Follicular Activation (HFA). This involves both home use and in-clinical treatments to firstly stop abnormal/excessive hair loss (note that we normally lose 50-100 hairs per day), clean and unblock the scalp pores thus optimizing the environment for new hair growth, then activate and nourish hair follicles thus reversing miniaturization.

HFA stimulates the function of the hair germ cell and provides it with optimum nutrition. All our tonics have a special “targeting technology” that direct the key hair regrowth ingredients to the most affected areas. Also HFA effectively controls the production of the 5 alpha reductase enzyme at the follicle thus reducing the amount of DHT acting on genetically sensitive scalp hair follicles.

In addition, Herbal Follicular Activation helps to: reduce scalp sebaceous oil gland secretion, decrease scalp and hair follicle inflammation, support the body’s natural hormonal balance as well as other important physiological functions, improve the internal and external environment of the hair follicle and promote ideal scalp pH balance.

Therefore, Herbal Follicular Activation “wakes up” dormant hair follicles by providing more oxygen and essential nutrients to the follicle base, creating ideal conditions for new hair growth. Herbal Follicular Activation is a revolutionary process unique to The Australian Hair and Scalp Clinic that is very effective in growing new hair for people.
