Male Pattern Hair Loss (MPHL) or Male Pattern Baldness (MPB) is often characterised by a receding hairline and/or a thinning crown. Hair loss is commonly caused by genetic factors, hormone levels, or immune reactions that create inflammation around the hair follicles.
Because of the enzyme ‘5 alpha-reductase’, Testosterone can convert to what is called DHT, which can cause obstruction to follicle blood supply, and can prevent the absorption of nutrients that are essential for hair growth.
Hair naturally has a cycle of growth (Anagen), and rest (Telogen), and the production of DHT can cause ‘Miniaturisation’ which changes the balance of the cycle. This allows less time for growth, and more time for resting. With each cycle, the hair shaft becomes smaller, and can eventuate in follicle death and hair loss. Hair loss can also be triggered or aggravated by lifestyle influences.
Smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, poor diet, certain medication, insufficient sleep, emotional stress, and even poor quality or toxic hair products can affect hair loss. Our experts are dedicated to helping you find the best path towards a more confident you.
